Happy Holidays! Carroll & Company, our Families and Friends are ready to Give Back on December 23rd and 24th. Please consider supporting our 2018 Holiday Youth Giving Event. Every year I work with my sister and her children to host a Cookies and Crafts Holiday party for about 20 kids and some parents. This year we are turning the Holiday fun into a Party with a Purpose. We will still be baking and decorating cookies and doing crafts but this time we are making cookies and crafts for a shelter as well as collecting the following: Socks (with grippers on bottom preferred) Individually Wrapped Soap Laundry Detergeant Multicultural Children's Books Toys NOTE: We also need supply donations for 50 cards like Glue,& glue dots, double sided tape, Holiday Stickers, Crayons, Markers, Children's Scissors, etc. (Gently used craft supplies are welcome) We have adopted the House of Ruth this year and will have Holiday Cards created by approximately 18 children, Christmas Candy or Cookies, Socks, Soap, Detergeant, Children's Books &/or toys ready to deliver to approximately 50 on Christmas Eve. Please consider donating an item or two to this worthy cause. Your donations will help make our Holiday Cookies and Crafts day an excellent service day! See this? It's a lifeline...why? Well while most of you walk past places not noticing things like this, to someone else it's a lifeline. When I was homeless, I used these all around the city to grab a charge on my phone. I used guest wifi to apply for jobs, use wifi calling to call and handle business. However none of it is possible without a charged device. So now, still...when I see one I make a mental note of where it is. Just in case I ever end up in that situation again, I know where I can grab a few percent on my battery so i can use my device to apply for jobs or make wifi calls. For those who make it sound so simple for a homeless person to get out of the situation, you have no idea! Lifelines! Сухая, лёгкая и непромокаемая обувь - один из самых важных предметов гардероба для бездомных людей в холодный период. Зимы в средней полосе почти перестали быть суровыми, реагенты, которыми посыпают дороги и тротуары, превращают снег и лёд в грязную кашу, которая разъедает самую крепкую обувь. Хорошо, когда у человека есть возможность снять уличные ботинки, почистить их и просушить в домашних условиях. Но когда такой возможности нет, эти ботинки превращаются в большую угрозу. Влажные ноги гораздо быстрее замерзают, а, если человек живёт на улице и не имеет в запасе сухой пары, для того, чтобы переобуться, его неминуемо ждут простуда, воспаление, а в самых страшных ситуациях - ампутация обмороженных конечностей. На прошлой неделе мы получили более десятка просьб помочь обувью. Чаще всего, бездомные носят кроссовки из искусственной ткани или грубые старые ботинки, не спасающие ни от холода, ни от влаги. Как правило, эта обувь очень старая, поношенная, расходящаяся по швам или покрытая дырками. Конечно, ни о каком сохранении тепла в таких ботинках речи не идёт. Среди обуви, которую жертвуют нам неравнодушные люди, можно найти хорошие летние кеды, туфли на каблуках, босоножки и домашние тапочки, но необходимой обуви - сухой, лёгкой и непромокаемой, - среди неё нет. Поэтому мы решили объявить сбор, который будет актуален до конца зимы. Друзья, нам нужны добротные мужские сапоги или полусапоги, говоря простым языком, "дутики", в идеале - с галошей и шнурками на голенище. Галоши защитят от влаги, зафиксированные на голенище шнурки обеспечат плотное прилегание к ноге, для избегания проникновения осадков внутрь. Пример идеальных "дутиков" на прикреплённом фото, но хорошо подойдут и другие фасоны. Размеры стандартные полные 41-45. Если у вас есть подобная неиспользуемая обувь, пожалуйста, напишите об этом Юлии Герман. This is WILLIAM'S STORY - a wonderful member of our staff. An incredible message of hope and a great example of how our Centre empowers and offers opportunities to people of all abilities. . "My name is William. I don’t like to talk too much about the past, but I can share with you that I had a pretty hard life with a lot of family problems. I spent a lot of time in emergency rooms for mental health challenges, until I was diagnosed with severe depression, OCD and anxiety. As part of my mental illness, I made some bad decisions that led me to also having an addiction problem. Fortunately, I was referred a great psychiatrist and a social worker, and with their support I started walking the difficult road to get better. . I have lived in shelters in the past, but I am currently on disability and am living in a boarding home. I have made some good friends there, but you still do not get much privacy, and that can be very stressful at times. For this reason, I would really like to move to my own place, but with Toronto being so expensive there is no way that I can afford a regular rent on disability only. I wanted to work, but there is a lot of stigma around people with mental illness and disabilities, and because of that finding a job can be very challenging. However, some months ago an employment coach referred me to St. Felix Centre, and many things started to change for me since then! . St. Felix Centre offered me a part-time employment opportunity to be part of their maintenance staff. Recife by itself is just awful. Even the citizens say it is not Recife but Hellcife. This place is like from horror film. Thousands of poor begging people walking barefoot, lying on the streets, parks. The smell on the streets, from the river, from people is disgusting. Garbage is everywhere! Believe me, Ukraine is much more cleaner, but still Brazil has much more better roads. So the city is huge but here is a saying works that quantity doesn't mean quality. Though we found a place that is beautiful. What en epic fail...dead people live in a better conditions than alive one, but I think this place is just for rich people. Poor people probably die just on the streets... well, that is why the smell is so bad😂🙈 So there are many rich people and they feel the same smell, see the same dust on the streets, but just close their eyes putting their body in a big luxury car with an air conditioning and that's all.
