The Flying Tigers should be a really fun team to watch this year. We project a powerhouse rotation to start the season. We expect top prospects Casey Mize and Franklin Perez to start the year in Lakeland. Mize will be there to regain his form that he lost near the end of 2018, and Perez will be there to regain confidence after (pretty much) season ending injuries last year. Joining them is talented righty Austin Sodders, stud prospect Elvin Rodriguez, and the underrated Dane Myers. The bullpen, on the other hand, will be different. It is made up of two strong long-relievers in Eudis Idrogo and Alfred Gutierrez. Wladimir Pinto will be interesting to watch in the bullpen. He’s got a 100+ MPH fastball and great stuff, but struggles controlling it. If we can gain some sort of control, he will be a force in the bullpen. We are also giving Drew Carleton a chance to close. He barely missed a promotion to AA, so instead we are giving him a chance to make a name for himself in the organization. Hopefully he will rise to the occasion. Now to the lineup. We promoted Joey Morgan, even though he didn’t have a great 2018. He was a top pick, and was drafted out of college. He needs to get challenged, and really needs to start showing signs of promise. 2019 will be a big year for him, and we wish him nothing but luck. Nothing else really changes from last year. Clemens and Deatherage will get a long look in Lakeland this year, and may even end up in AA. This is it for Derek Hill. He needs to show signs of improvement. He’s a great athlete, but he just hasn’t panned out. We believe in Hill, but he really needs to do something this year. Somebody else to look for is Brady Polliceli. He got a spring training invite, and for good reason. He can play almost everywhere, and is a huge spark plug. He could be primed for a big breakout year in 2019.
